The Automotive Lean Production – Award & Study 2021 initiative was dedicated to this question. In this benchmark study, the “leanest plants – OEMs and suppliers – faced an international competition for the renowned Automotive Lean Production Awards. The highlight of the initiative was the Automotive Lean Production Congress 2021. During a two-day event at the Skoda plant in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic, the winners of the various award categories received their awards and shared their lean journey and successes stories with the audience.

At the congress, the award winners presented their award-winning plants and concepts. A special highlight was certainly the keynote presentation by Dr. Oeljeklaus, Chief Production and Logistics Officer of the SKODA brand, on the brand's Strategy 2030. In the subsequent Q&A session, he gave an honest account of the current chip crisis and the challenges that remain to be overcome. Other exciting specialist lectures were given by the winners of the Automotive Lean Award 2021: "Lean Transformation" by Witzenmann USA, "Excellent Culture of Improvement" for the Suzarra plant, CHN Industrial, IVECO and "BU Transformation Learning Organization" for Feintool Systemparts Europe. The feedback we received on the practical presentations was extremely positive from all parties.
