AUMOVIO Sibiu manages an exceptionally high level of product, customer and material flow complexity while continuing to develop the site during a period of ongoing growth. The evaluation team encountered a stable and high-performing site that regards Operational Excellence not as a completed program, but as a continuous management responsibility.
The starting point is a highly motivated management team with a clear focus on performance, transparency and continuous improvement. 5S and standardized work are firmly established at a high level and create the stability required for automation and digitalization to deliver their full potential. It is particularly convincing that the AUMOVIO Production System is not understood as a rigid set of rules but is consistently applied in daily operations.
The group-wide Shopfloor Management System (SFMS) is implemented consistently and at a high level at the Sibiu site. Building on the principles and structures of the SFMS, the site uses digital solutions such the Virtual Line Information Board (vLIB). vLIB translates the SFMS logic into a practical application and consolidates relevant information for operational management directly at line level. Deviations become visible at the point of occurrence, responsibilities and escalations are transparent, and additional tools such as A3 and JIRA, as well as information on training needs, are directly integrated. These management routines are complemented by a strong KPI-based performance management system that extends beyond production. In logistics, MTTM analyses and other process-oriented evaluations also create transparency regarding routes, times and losses, thereby providing a reliable basis for improvement decisions.
SMT and final assembly feature a wide range of practical improvements. Automated replenishment, intelligent magazine and reel storage systems, pick-by-light and FIFO solutions, automated optical inspection, RFID applications, cobots, Kanban and comprehensive traceability concepts reduce searching and transportation effort, inventories, picking errors and manual handling. The decisive factor is not the number of technologies used, but their consistent focus on improving overall value-stream performance.
The site uses a clearly structured process for the development of digital solutions. New requirements are recorded, reviewed by IT and cybersecurity, prioritized and tracked through implementation. Digitalization is therefore not treated as a separate IT program, but as a production-oriented part of continuous improvement.
The holistic approach is particularly visible in intralogistics. AutoStore, Megalifts, Kardex systems, AGVs and milk-run-based supply are integrated into an overarching material flow concept. Automated replenishment provides the production lines with the required components, intelligent SMD storage systems support FIFO and error-free picking, and the Smart Magazine Storage system creates real-time transparency regarding work in progress. Lean principles and technology therefore work together directly.
AUMOVIO Sibiu’s particular achievement lies in the excellent application of the full range of Operational Excellence methods. 5S and standardized work create stable processes. Shopfloor Management provides a clear structure for daily management activities, while vLIB ensures transparency. Through a clearly defined process, specific operational requirements are translated into practical digital solutions. At the same time, advanced intralogistics ensures a stable material flow. The site does not digitalize for technology’s sake but solves specific operational problems while creating a scalable foundation for further growth.
For this outstanding combination of Lean and digitalization, as well as its convincing mastery of industrial complexity, AUMOVIO Sibiu receives the Automotive Lean Production Award 2026 in the “Supplier” category.

The Sibiu site was established in 2003 and has developed into one of AUMOVIO’s major European electronics locations. Manufacturing, research and development, shared services and global functions work closely together on one campus. Seven production modules and three buildings for development and shared services form an industrial ecosystem with around 3,200 employees in Sibiu.
With the opening of Module 7 in 2025 and the planned expansion of further production lines, Sibiu is continuing its development.
